The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
The Green Growth Knowledge Platform (www.greengrowthknowledge.org) office in Geneva was launched in January 2014 to support a global partnership of over 50 leading international organizations, research institutes and think tanks focused on:
i.Collaboratively identifying knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice;
ii.Catalysing knowledge generation to address these gaps; and
iii. Sharing and disseminating green growth knowledge.
Its founding members, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), UNEP and the World Bank comprise GGKP’s Steering Committee, and provide strategic direction and oversight for the initiative.
The Economy Division/ GGKP internship is for six (6) months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned
Under the direct supervision of the Country Engagement Coordinator, GGKP, and the overall guidance of the Head of the GGKP Secretariat, the intern will be responsible for:
-Supporting the GGKP team to strengthen the interactions between the policymaker and expert communities, especially related to the expansion of the online green growth community space, Expert Connect service and web platforms. Specific responsibilities involve supporting the following tasks:
Coordinating and monitoring communication across experts, clients and the GGKP Secretariat;
Drafting background documents and text for the Expert Connect Solution webpage and expert-client interactions;
Administering and analysing needs assessment to potential clients to address policy and expert needs of governments and institutions; and
Assisting in the regular maintenance of the GGKP web platform, including content upload (knowledge of Drupal is an advantage).
-Supporting the GGKP to strengthen its efforts to promotion innovate in green growth;
Engaging and supporting existing innovation efforts within GGKP partners;
Liaising with GGKP partners to identify green growth innovations; and
Supporting further outreach and communications related to these innovations.

Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others. Places team agenda before personal agenda. Supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position. Shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.
Client orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view. Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect. Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
b. Be;Enrolled in a Master’s or PhD programme in Public Administration, international studies, development studies, economics, and/or related fields in with a significant teamwork component.
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Outstanding writing abilities in English are required.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
